Someone once said that a good book has to make you laugh, it has to make you cry, and it has to make you think. The book I’m about to review certainly has the power to summon all these things. I’m talking about PRIMACY, by J.E.Fishman, a stunning eco-thriller,of which I had the honor of receiving a signed copy from the author. The dedication he wrote on the book says I’m the number one reader in Romania, for which I’m very grateful. What I’m even more grateful for is the fact that Mr. Fishman has penned the best eco-thriller I’ve ever read.
The story revolves around Liane Vinson,a researcher at an animal testing lab who discovers that her favorite bonobo, Bea, has acquired the ability to speak. Along with vet Mickey Ferrone, she will have to protect the ape from Axel Flickinger, the CEO of the lab, the government and even a fanatic animal rights organization.
The book is chock-full of action, so its 400 pages turn at a very fast pace, but what is really impressive about it is the depth. Its language is simple, but the whole story is so thought-provoking and emotional, that it contradicts the subtitle : a thriller. It is a book that offers an action-packed story, unusual protagonists, twists, turns, tears, and “bolingo”(love, in the language that Bea speaks). I genuinely cared for the characters and I was glued to the pages till the end of the book. If you’re looking for a deep meditation on the human condition, or an action-packed emotional roller-coaster, PRIMACY is the book for you. 10 stars out of 5. Hell of a read, Mr. Fishman. Thank you very, very much for the chance to read this gem.
